How It Works

From a submitted story to an approved publication, national to local.

For contributors

  1. Sign in. Contributors use their existing Local Internet account — there is no separate Informed account to create.
  2. Write one story. The story is written once in the shared system. There are no copies and no per-brand versions.
  3. Choose a brand and a place. The contributor requests one or more of the five brands and the geographic edition the story is about — a state, county, city or community.
  4. Editorial review. Reviewers check the story itself before any placement is considered.
  5. Independent approval per brand. Each brand approves its own placement separately. Approval on one brand never publishes the story on another.
  6. Publication. The story appears only on the exact brand and place that approved it. Nothing publishes automatically.

For readers

Every brand offers the same geographic explorer: all 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as a separate federal district, with counties on CountyInformed, the largest incorporated cities on CityInformed and communities on LocalInformed. Open a state to reach its page on each brand.

A geographic page shows stories only once approved stories exist for that exact brand and place. Until then it says so plainly — an empty edition is shown as empty, never filled with unrelated content.

Search indexing

A geographic edition becomes eligible for search indexing only when it has an approved, published story for that exact brand and destination. Empty editions stay out of search results, so search engines never see thin or placeholder pages.
