The Informed Network

One connected system. National to local.

The Informed Network connects five independent media brands — one for the nation, one for every state, one for every county, one for cities and one for local communities. Each keeps its own name, website and editorial decisions. The Network is the shared front door that shows how they fit together.

  1. Every community has a story (0:00)

Every community has a story — a new road, a school board vote, a festival on Main Street.

  2. Scattered and hard to find (0:07)

But local information is often scattered, and hard to find in one place.

  3. Information about where you live (0:12)

People need information about the places where they actually live.

  4. The front door (0:16)

That's the idea behind The Informed Network: the front door to five connected media brands.

  5. Five connected destinations (0:23)

USAInformed for the nation. StateInformed for every state. CountyInformed, CityInformed and LocalInformed for counties, cities and communities.

  6. Explore by place (0:34)

Readers explore by place — choose a state, then its counties, cities and communities. One shared geography, used by every brand. Editions will feature stories as they're approved.

  7. Independent brands (0:47)

Each brand keeps its own name, its own website and its own editorial decisions.

  8. How stories are published (0:53)

As each brand opens to contributors, authorized contributors write a story once and request a brand and a place. Editors review it, and each brand approves its own placement. Nothing publishes automatically, and the Network itself publishes nothing.

  9. Our vision (1:09)

Our vision is a growing, connected network of local information — built one approved story at a time.

  10. Closing (1:16)

How stories are published

  1. Submit once. A signed-in contributor writes one story in the shared system.
  2. Choose destinations. The contributor requests one or more brands and the place the story is about.
  3. Editorial review. Reviewers check the story itself before anything else happens.
  4. Independent approval per brand. Each brand approves its own placement separately. Approval for one never publishes on another.
  5. Publication. Only approved stories appear, on the exact brand and place approved. Nothing publishes automatically.

The Informed Network itself publishes no stories and makes no editorial decisions.
